Soccer is a popular and majestic sport that gets international clamor. As a midfielder, Robert Gaspar knows the important roles that every team member plays. This article tells some important points about the majestic roles of goalies and how they stand out as a member of the team.

Goalkeepers hold a majestic position as a team’s last line of defense. Robert Gaspar also noted that a fearless attitude makes a goalie more effective in defending his position because it gives them the strength and motivation to keep the opponent from penetrating the goal.

Because of the dictates of their position, there are special privileges that goalkeepers are entitled to.

  •  A majestic goalie is the only one allowed to use their hands in this game. Other players are only allowed to hold the ball on the 18 yard box or the penalty area.
  • As part of their job, they may yell instructions at other players from time to time.
  • They are the ones who will undoubtedly dive on the ground as well as on other bodies in pursuit of saving the ball.

Goalkeeper’s Responsibilities

Robert Gaspar also emphasized that soccer goalies deserve the respect that they are getting while on the field because they are the ones who often the greatest threat each time they try to prevent the opponent from making a goal
Some of the things included in a goalie’s to-do list on the soccer field are as follows:
  1. Make sure that the ball is prevented from going into the net and this may include a hard dive onto a pretty hard field.
  2. Win the challenge for the ball. Goalies need to jump into the air to win the ball with a huge chance for other players to land on them.
  3. Prevent penalty kicks. A goalie needs to face down a shooter with merely a distance of 12 yards to stop a penalty kick.

Working Right as a Goalie

A goalie needs to start right to be effective as a soccer player and as Robert Gaspar noted, there are some basic keys that must be learned in order to do this.

  • Hand technique: With your hands, form a “W” in front of you. Do this by putting your thumbs and index fingers together and your palms faced towards the shooter.  Robert Gaspar noted that this technique will prevent the ball from slipping between your hands when facing a shot head on.
  • Proper holding of ball: Allow the ball to meet your hands, do not squash it.
  • Proper body position: Keep your body between the ball and the soccer goal.
  • Ball protection: Upon catching the ball bring it firmly into your body and cradle it. Robert Gaspar explained that it is important for goalies to consider the ball as a very precious thing that can’t be lost. The goalie is in a position that is closest to the goal so when they lose or drop the ball, the opponent gets the highest chance to make a point.
  • Balance state of mind and body: Maintain balance in terms of your mental and physical state. A majestic soccer goalie needs to be alert mentally and must maintain an optimum physical condition to be able to function well.

Other Duties of Goalies

Goalies do not just stop the ball because other than that, they have other majestic roles to play. Robert Gaspar explained that goalkeepers can start a play build-up with a punt, or by pitching the ball to a teammate.

A goalie can also score goals through a corner kick late in the game. Most of the time, goalies are also excellent strikers. This can be the result of their independent attitude and their familiarity with what strikers do as they often face each other on a 1 on 1 situation.

Robert Gaspar also mentioned that a goalkeeper is also a good team leader. The goalie has a better vision of the entire field and is the boss in the 18 yard box so a keeper can offer a very valuable opinion regarding the play.

A skilled and majestic soccer goalkeeper can create a thin line between winning and losing and as long as the keeper will focus in getting his responsibilities done, the team can expect a great match. On the other hand, attackers and defenders like Robert Gaspar can help a goalie by keeping the ball away from the goal or by offering enough cover each time a goalie leaves the line to win the ball.
